| Acuity AR600 laser displacement
sensor |
The AccuRange 600 series is a family of triangulating laser displacement
sensors with excellent accuracy and sensitivity. Acuity offers over
eleven AR600 models with spans to measure 0.125 inches to 50 inches.
The AR600 laser displacement sensor models employ
triangulation measurement principles with a CCD detector array.
This technique yields accurate distance measuring and unmatched
sensitivity on targets with low reflectivity.
The AR600 optical measurement sensor projects a beam of visible
laser light that creates a spot on the target surface. The reflected
light from the surface is viewed from an angle by a CCD line scan
camera and the target's distance is computed from the image pixel
data. The size of the measurement triangle is a function of the
sensor span and case length.
Acuity's AR600 displacement sensor is among the most accurate optical
devices in the field. The shortest-range models are capable of micron
measurements at very high sampling rates. This Acuity laser displacement
sensor is unique and has the ability to accurately measure to difficult
target materials. The product is patented by the US Patent and Trademark
Office (patent 6,624,899, Triangulation Displacement Sensor)
Speed
The AR600 is a digital measuring device with sampling speeds up
to 1250 samples per second (Hz). The sampling rate is selectable
and the sensor can even be commanded to sample on demand with the
"Take single sample" command. Acuity's optical sensors
include a Background Light Elimination feature (BLE) that takes
a sample with the laser on and then off to eliminate the effects
of ambient light. This technique improves the accuracy of the readings.
Resolution
The AR600 laser displacement sensors have an inherent resolution
of 0.03% of the sensor's span. For example the AR600-1 model, with
a one inch measuring span, would have a resolution of 0.0003 inches.
This is the smallest detectable change in distance for this model
sensor. With the optional High Resolution upgrade, Acuity uses an
improved CCD detector array to achieve resolutions of 0.01% of the
span.
Rugged design
Acuity sensors are designed for high-demand industrial applications.
Each laser displacement sensor is NEMA-4 (IP67) rated and can withstand
mist and spray. However, as with all optical devices, it is necessary
to keep the sensor window obstruction-free. The effects of a dirty
sensor window are similar to dirty eyeglasses for people: it can
not see clearly. As a result, measurement accuracy would decrease.
